Schweitzer

Schweitzer Stock. Bonner County Historical Society.

    Local skiers had often looked at Schweitzer Mountain, and within a short time a group organized the non-profit Schweitzer Basin, Inc. in 1962.  The community supported plans to build a ski area, and residents bought stock for $10 a share.  Work began in 1963 to develop ski runs.  At the same time, an even more arduous task began as crews struggled to build nine miles of winding road to the top of the mountain.
