Kamloops thrived in the cold waters of Lake Pend Oreille.  Opening day of fishing season in 1946 brought the results people had hoped for as folks reeled in big fish weighing ten to twenty pounds or more.  Kamloops from Lake Pend Oreille swept the 1946 Field and Stream magazine awards, taking every top prize and all but one of the honorable mentions.
