Crewport Farm Labor Camp Newsletter, 1941-42

The Granger Leader was the newsletter published at the Crewport Farm Labor Camp by Camp residents during 1941-1942. The Crewport Farm Labor Camp was originally known as the Granger Farm Workers Camp due to its proximity to the City of Granger, Washington. This explains the newsletter's name. A contest was held among the Camp residents to name the newsletter. Thus the first issue was published without a name. The Granger Leader lends insights into camp life and philosophy reflected in the writings of the camp manager, the newsletter editor, and other contributors who resided at the Camp during these years. The newsletter also provides a window for viewing Camp life in the context of national and world affairs since the U.S. was just entering World War II. The issues of the newsletter included here were selected because these seemed particularly illustrative of the life and times at the Crewport Farm Labor Camp. The Granger Leader is available on microfilm at the University of California-Berkeley Library.
