Statistics regarding the decline in the timber industry

A report published in 1985 on employment trends in Lane County reveals the onset of the decline. In the mid-'80s economists hoped that the timber recession was on its way out. Later figures show that it got much worse in the 1990s.

In 1980 10.4 percent of the families in Cottage Grove lived below the national poverty line.
