| Project Historian, Portland State University and the Center for Columbia River History
The Columbia River and its tributaries have
been part of my life from childhood swims and crawdad hunts in local creeks to adult
explorations of dams and hatcheries.
For the past three years I have worked on
public programs related to the Columbia River Basin, first as program
assistant under the James B. Castles Endowment, then as researcher
for the April 22, 1998 Nez Perce Reconciliation ceremony held at Fort
Vancouver, Washington. Since September 1997 I have worked with other
CCRH staff members to create community history internet exhibits for
the CRBP's "Columbia Communities" web site. The contagious
energy and commitment of Center staff to public understanding of the
Columbia Basin has enriched my life professionally and personally.
As many have said, the river is the lifeblood and heart of the Pacific
Northwest, and through my work at the Center I have developed a lifelong
passion for this great entity once known as NCh'i Wana. I am currently
creating a website for Umatilla, Oregon and another for the Columbia
Slough area of Portland.
