The film "Local Color" traces the history of African-Americans in Portland from the late 1800s through the Civil Rights Era. This site provides some background infomation for the film including primary documents and suggested readings. That African-Americans were originally excluded from living in Oregon, and the perpetual racism that African-Americans have faced are things that should not be forgotten. The information contained within these pages only begin to scratch the surface of this important topic.
